This time of year many people start feeling a little sad as summer begins to turn to fall and the sun doesn’t seem quite so strong. Please don’t use that as an excuse to become cavalier about protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays which are present year round.

If you’ve ever had any kind of cosmetic procedure, surgical or non surgical or are considering one to help reduce lines, wrinkles and the signs of aging, you’ll want to be especially diligent. Sun exposure is by far the greatest contributor to skin cancers and prematurely aging skin.

Make certain that a good quality moisturizer with a minimum 20 SPF is part of your daily routine. Sunglasses and hats should be daily accessories as well.

Summer isn’t over quite yet. We also have many brilliant autumn days to look forward to that are wonderful for all kinds of outdoor activities like picking apples, harvest festivals, hiking and beachcombing all of which expose your skin to the sun.

If you’re a winter sport enthusiast, you have to be as careful about sun protection as the most ardent summer sun lover. Skiing, whether downhill or cross country, and snowboarding are winter sports that call for stronger protection that only a zinc or titanium dioxide sun block product can provide.

Sun protection is a year-round necessity no matter your age or skin type. It is even more important once you’ve had a cosmetic procedure. So make it part of your daily routine, like brushing your teeth. And don’t skip it just because the sun isn’t shining.
