Creating youthful, slender contours that redefine the figure. If you have excess subcutaneous fat, which is resistant to diet and exercise, you may be a candidate for liposuction.
Liposuction will change the contours of your body, such as under the chin, the upper arms and armpits, male chest/breasts, trunk, the abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, inner knees, calves, and ankles.
Liposuction will permanently improve the contour and proportion of the treated areas. The goal is to create a more flattering figure or shape, in or out of clothing.
Here at Maine Plastic Surgery, this procedure is done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with IV sedation. Small suction tubes called cannulas are inserted through tiny incisions placed in inconspicuous locations near the fat deposits, and excess fat is then removed.
Advantages of a Liposuction:
- Safe, effective removal of excess fat
- Slims, tones and sculpts the body
- Reduces cellulite
- Improves overall health due to fat loss
- Improves stamina
- Boosts self-confidence
- Provides a better fit in clothing and swimwear
- Effective where dieting and exercise have failed to provide results
Who is a good candidate for liposuction? Ideal candidates…

- Have no major medical issues
- Are looking to lose fat rather than achieve weight loss
- Are within around 20% of their ideal body weight

Liposuction for Men
Liposuction is still the gold standard for body sculpting. Dr. Gardenier can improve your contours around the hips, waist, thighs, lower back, belly, arms and buttocks, removing excess fatty tissue for a more sculpted look. This in turn can lead to a better fit in clothing, as well as improved self-confidence and well-being.
Following this surgery, patients go home in a first stage compression garment or tape covering the treated areas. After pain and soreness decrease, a second stage garment is worn for an additional three to four weeks. Total compression time is approximately one month to help reduce swelling. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Bruising and swelling usually subside in two to four weeks. The final result takes shape over two to three months; however, final contours may not be evident for as long as six months.
This procedure is considered cosmetic and is not covered by insurance. The patient is responsible for payment.
However, we do offer access to a variety of healthcare lenders for your convenience. Our friendly patient care coordinator will help you to apply. In many cases, these lenders provide instant approval so you can get started immediately. They also provide reasonable down payments, APR’s and repayment terms that most clients find manageable.
