What is a Brow Lift?

Brow lifts can be performed alone or in conjunction with other procedures, such as a facelift or eyelid surgery. The brow lift corrects the deep horizontal lines in the forehead and raises the brows back to a more youthful position when they fall below the orbital rim (eye socket). This procedure can be performed through an incision running over the top of the head or with very limited incisions during an upper lid lift in an endoscopic fashion (using a small camera).

What are the Different Types of Brow Lifts?

There are several types of brow lifts that Dr. Gardenier can perform. They will choose the best approach based on your needs and goals, as discussed during your confidential consultation in Portland, Maine.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

In this case scarring is very minimal, as incisions are neatly hidden in the scalp. The surgeon uses a tiny tubular camera (endoscope) to help guide his approach.

Short Scar Brow Lift

This is among the most common and popular techniques. Incisions are nicely camouflaged within the hairline. The hairline is slightly lowered, which can be an additional advantage for some.

Coronal Brow Lift

Here, an incision is made extending from one side of the scalp to the other. This method is usually chosen when significant lifting is required for a deeply sagging brow.

Temple Lift

This lift can be effective in elevating the outer corners of the eyes, improving eye hooding. Results are elegant and refreshing. It is also excellent for reducing crow’s feet.

  • The forehead is wrinkled and scrunched
  • You appear more tired and aged than you actually are
  • You appear disgruntled or angry due to the eyebrow angle
  • You are experiencing low self-confidence as a result of your appearance

What is Recovery Like After a Brow Lift?

After surgery you may be wrapped in a light head dressing for 48 hours. Mild bruising and swelling during the first week to ten days is not unusual.

Most patients are able to resume a normal level of activity within two weeks after surgery. Possible risks associated with a brow lift include numbness and weakness in the muscles of the forehead. Complications are rare and usually temporary.
